TOP 10 CLEANING AND STORAGE TIPS TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR LINGERIE

The lingerie-making process in BonBon Lingerie is highly special as we follow the "lingerie for lifetime” standards. Meaning, we strive for the highest possible quality in the selection of materials as well as the production process, designing lingerie sets that exude a sense of beauty and freshness that is made to last. But in order for our handmade lingerie’s sparkle to never fade, it needs to be given a lot of care and love. To help, we have prepared a simple guide for washing and storing your lingerie, with the help of which your BonBon pearls will remain flawless for years to come.

1. HANDMADE LINGERIE NEEDS HAND WASHING

BonBon Lingerie always recommends hand washing or using a delicate cycle programme to wash your lingerie. The three easy yet crucial steps of hand washing are soaking, washing and rinsing. To soak, place your lingerie in cold or room-temperature water mixed with detergent and leave it there for 10-15 minutes. Then gently rub the dirty areas between your fingers or with a soft brush. If there are no dirty areas, take the lingerie in and out of the water alternately for a few minutes. To rinse, place the lingerie into clean water for five minutes. Don’t use any force or twist your premium lingerie after rinsing. Instead, gently squeeze out the excessive water. If necessary, you can also wrap the wet bra in a dry towel and carefully press to remove any excess water. Avoid centrifuge!

2. USE THE DELICATE CYCLE PROGRAMME ONLY IF NECESSARY

If you do decide to wash your lingerie in the washing machine on the delicate cycle programme, be sure to use a mesh lingerie bag. By using a lingerie bag, you avoid excessively stretching your precious items and helping the lingerie maintain its original elasticity when drying. Make sure to wash your lingerie with other delicate items, as heavier clothes may tear the fine lace fabric in the drum. Avoid washing your lingerie with lint-producing fabrics such as terrycloth or fleece.

3. WASH YOUR BRA AFTER 2-4 WEARS

It is recommended not to wash your bra after every use as it reduces the elasticity and lifetime of the straps and materials.

4. KEEP THE WATER TEMPERATURE UNDER 30 DEGREES

Every fabric has its own recommended water temperature. In addition to premium lace, we also use a lot of polyamide and elastane blends. High temperatures can break the threads of these materials and cause excessive stretching.

5. CHOOSE THE CORRECT DETERGENT

Delicate lingerie needs delicate treatment, which is why it is important to choose a detergent designed for delicate lingerie. The wrong detergent can make the fabric rough and ruin its appearance. When dosing, don’t exaggerate, but follow the amounts on the package. Overdosing may result in some of the detergent not rinsing out fully and, in the worst case, cause allergic skin reactions.

6. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER OR RINSING AGENT

Residue from the rinsing agent remains in elastane and lycra fabrics, dulling the colours and attracting bacteria that cause unpleasant odours.

7. DO NOT USE THE DRYER

Always air-dry your lingerie, because the heat of the dryer breaks the elasticity of the lingerie. Be especially careful with underwired and push-up bras, as they can lose their shape with improper care. Place the bras to dry on a flat surface in their correct shape.

8. DON’T IRON YOUR LINGERIE

Excessive heat can melt the fabric fibres.

9. PROTECT THE LINGERIE FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT AND LIGHT

When storing, pay attention that the lingerie is not in a too hot environment or exposed to a lot of light as fabrics containing elastane or lyrca mixtures can lose their original bright colours.

10. STORE YOUR BRAS IN THEIR ORIGINAL SHAPE

When storing your bras, do not turn the cups inside out. Instead, place the bras on top of each other or one after another. To protect your lingerie from dust and travel comfortably, we recommend purchasing BonBon Lingerie’s small travel bag.
